Making Memories to Last a Lifetime...

My dressing table mirror, is half covered...

Everyone has different ways of remembering things, and of coping...Right?

Well, I have my own way, too...

Remembering Sipadan Island...

I write, for example...I write in many ways...I write letters to myself (to be read in future), I blog in my personal blog, I blog here, I compile in a photo-journal, I post it on my board or my mirror...

My board at home, barely has any space left...

And it really is wonderful to look back over the years, and see how far you have come...It is wonderful to look back and see what is it you look like say, 5 years back, or what your style was at that time, or what you were doing exactly a year ago...

My photo-journal of sorts...(Pic on far right is of me wearing a saree for the first time!)

That is what I was doing this afternoon...I was looking at some of the photos I took years ago, and looking at the ticker stubs of movies I watched, and reminiscing about some trips and of friends I met...

A 'montage' of a collection of letters/cards from friends, and some of my own books and writings...

I was also reminiscing about school, and looking through some of the letters/cards my friends wrote to me...

And really, I am going to miss all this when I leave!

But you know what? I have books and photos filled with memories to bring along with me, and hopefully, it will be kinda like having family and friends close by...

That's why I love meeting up with blogger friends too...Cos you will make it into my book!

PS: Anybody share the same hobby?

Good to have the faces of ppl you hold dear next to you. Many years from now, you can look back and reminisce and even go " who is that"..like I sometimes do.Most of my "memory" stuff is back in back in Malaysia..but it never fails to bring a smile to my face when I look thru old photos, old school books, etc.
You look lovely in your sari. I love the colour.

Hey Kak Farina,

I know what you mean about lazy...I have not updated in a long time...Haha...Maklumlah, it takes a lot of time to document, to choose the right pix and to cut the celetape and to roll it up and to fix it to the pix...

Hey Gurdeep @ KL_Gal,

Hey-hey! How are you? Long time no see...

It's sad sometimes, looking at photos, when people have passed on...You think back to that old self of you so happy with that person, and think of how at that time, you thought you had forever...=(

But it brings back many good memories too!

BTW, I love the saree colour too as well...It was turquoise with violet flowers...

Hey Jo-D,

Yeah, patience is very important...I have not written in a while, because lazy to the core! ;)

But when I look back, it was worth it, the time...Hope to see you round...This time, we must take pix!

defnee link,

those stuff must have taken some effort from you to get them done. i'd be lying to say i had that before, keeping all the memories i once experienced.

the truth is, I AM LYING...hehehe...guys dont normally have those kinda stuff to be honest.

but its good for you to have done that. totally a must-bring item!

Daph,
It's a more meaninful way of keeping memories alive as a write up often accompanies your photograph. Unlike a photo album where you may forget the where a picture is taken and what a picture is about, your kind of records will always remind you of the event. I will tell my grandchildren to keep similar journals of their lives.
Thank you for showing the way.

Daphne Ling,
M.I.A. Akmal, back in actions!!!!
Cool hobby you have there Daph. Well, what I did, nothing of the sort. Just collection of pictures, rarely with tags and captions, in my harddrive. I am a 'Photographophilic', so that works well with me hehehe. Sometimes, I come out with flash and movies, but only for special occasions...and I mean special. The reason why I don't do that for every occasion, 3 reasons. Lazy, lazy and lazy hahaha.

Hey Kerpie,

You ar...Really seeing how many ways you can spell my name, hor?

Anyway, yeah, I suppose guys will find it "gay, poofy, cissy etc" (in your words lar, wei) to do such work, eh?

As for patience doing it, lordie, not easy...I have not updated in a long time!

Thanks for sharing in this Kerp, and you will most certainly make it into my book!

u use to do the same too. I also paste all the photos at my office table and board next to me. But now it's different. It's digital world. So, the photos are now at the pc.. as wall papers, blogs and pen-drive.
Kong Xi fa Cai !

kbguy said...

Oops ! typing mistake.. Its.. I use to do the same too

kbguy said...

o, mind. Time really flies..I looked at your photos and recall what I did.. those were actually 20years ago and more ! Now all those cut photos are kept in the box. I really still have them. I have them of all shapes and sizes. How funny, photos of plp I don't like, I have them cut out off too. Now, that I am older (or may be wiser..), I have them put in frames but still hang at my favourite spot at my home and office. But photos of those plp I love are hang specially in the spot where my heart is..

Hi Pak Zawi,

Hey hey! Welcome, and thanks for coming by...=)

You are very right...When you take a photo and look at it 10 years down the road (no need 10 years pun sometimes, 2 years also can adi), you will realise you can't remember what the photo is all about!

But the only sayang thing about all these photos is you have to cut them up! =)

Daphne Ling said...

Hey M.I.A Akmal,

Welcome back! You ni complete opposite of me ler...I bila balik Ipoh line manyak cantik, but when come back to hostel, line kantoi! *Eh, ask BN for better line in Kelantan, they want it (Kelantan) back ma!*

Hehe...

Anyway, I suck at computers lar, so simpan-ing things in Hard-Drive and doing flash-flash all, tak boleh lar...I very old-fashioned one, thus the conventional way of using hand, pen and paper! =)

I've seen my own handwriting undergoing transformation too!

Hi Anon 12.18,

Thanks for coming by...Heck no! It is never too late to start this...

As long as you have pictures, and a nice (by that, I mean 'sturdy') book/journal/scrapbook etc, you're on the go! Buy a good quality one, as cheap ones tend to have very thin paper, which easily tears/easily visible from the behind...

You want to keep your books for a long time, right? So, invest in a good book!

Besides that, it's all up to you, how you wanna do your book...=) Different people have different styles and likes ma...=)

Hope you will start one!

Daphne Ling said...

Hi NightWing,

Haha! Famous? Yeah, right...

Anyway, why sell these momentoes, even IF become famous? They're precious man! The amount of time invested in it, is priceless!

No sell one...

May the year of the rat be a great one for you too!

Hey KBGUy,

"...photos of plp I don't like, I have them cut out off too."

You cut them out if you don't like them?!?!? Aiyo, might as well don't take pictures with them in the first place...Easier ma...

And very sayang to chop photos, you know? ;)

But it is very refreshing to see a guy who does the same thing! How nice! =)

And a Cong Xi Fa Cai to you too, and thanks for coming by...

Daphne Ling said...

Hi Cikgu Hakim,

Thanks for visiting my blog, sir...Will surely visit yours soon! And yes, it is a great hobby, because it will surely bring back many memories in the future...=)

Take care...

Daphne Ling said...

Hey Kerpie,

Of course not! It's been a while since I updated, cos it actually takes a lot of time to sit down and recall the exact events of the day, and then to arrange the photos, and to cut them and to fix them down!

None of the bloggers have made it in, and since my book is chronological, you come somewhere at the end, dear...=)

Wait lar, patience, patience...;)

Good job, Daphne!! I wished I was just as "rajin"!

I bought several hundred dollars worth of scrap booking supplies, and I haven't gone beyond 5 pages of Duncan's baby book! :-( Forget about starting one for Denice!

Anonymous said...

Hallo! I like your blog. Just saw it today from MM's blog.

Daphne Ling said...

Hi Kak Puteri,

Wah...You spent a lot of money lar wei...All I bought were the books (each book lasts a few years, cos you don't put everything into a photo-journal), glue, scissors, celotape, and some coloured paper...

Hehe...

You should check out Jennifer Tai's blog then (see my blogroll), cos she does scrapbooking for her kids! Real nice ones...=)
