"For Here or to Go, Love?"...

At the Sandwich Bar on campus:-

Sweet Old Dear: "And what can I get you today, hon?"

Me: "Classic Club, please"

SOD: "Mayo, love?"

Me: "Yes, please!"

SOD: "What kind of bread, dear?"

Me: "Brown"

SOD: "And what vegetables would you like with that, sweets?"

Me: "Tomatoes".

SOD: "Just tomatoes, dear? Would you like more?"

Me: "It's ok, no thank you. My mouth can't stretch that big...;)"

SOD: "Oh, you dear. For here or to go, love?"

Me: "To go"

SOD: "Here you go sweetheart. See you again"

Me: "Thank you very much"

SOD: "You're welcome, hon".

At cashier:-

Another SOD: "Just the sandwich, hon?"

Me: "Uh-huh"

*Paid*

Me: "Thank you" (When taking back my card)

ASOD: "You're welcome, my dear"...

Awww...You can listen to them all day! And anytime of the day you go, there will be nice and 'hon', and 'love', and 'dear' you...

The line can be long but they will make their bread with all the love in the world, and nobody seems to really grumble...Not out loud, anyway ;)...

One lady even called me 'my little muffin' once! Hehe...

LOL LOL LOl! Daphne gal that was cute! I miss hearing that kinds of names. When I was in England those were the things I hear often too!

Now that is what I call peramah! We Malaysians are peramah in our own way kan?
Muffin...eh I mean, Daph, what do they give to blokes? Hon also?

Isn't that nice? Makes you want to go back for more sandwiches or whatever they are selling.

It is that way in the south here. I usually get that from older folks who work at the cashier or are greeters at the store.

As to Akmal's comment, yes, Malaysians have their own way but it is becoming rare. It is hard to see the positive side of customer service in Malaysia when some of them make you feel like you are imposing on their time. That said, I am not denying that on my last trip home the helpful ones were the security guards at the banks I went to.

Daph,
It doesn't take much to make us happy but even that little gestures is denied us over here. Even a smile is scarce. Some of the fast food outlets are trying though.

Hey Anon 16:55,

Haha. Yeap, I'm a muffin now...A big, round muffin...;)

Oh, and you're most welcome! Glad to be of service =)

Hi Faridah,

I know! The first time I heard them, I was like, gosh, so movie-like...=)

'Love' is especially popular in England, right? In Malaysia, it's 'Dik' I hear alot...=)

Hey Akmal,

Haha! I really dunno what they call blokes...But I suspect they get pretty much the same...

Although maybe no muffins and cupcakes...;)

Hmmm...Maybe next time I will pay more attention...Tell you next time we chat!

Hey Jacqui,

Yes! The older ones usually do this, although the ones that are not-so-old do them too! And yes, I could eat another sandwich, since she's so nice...Haha! Any wonder where all the extra weight is coming from?

As for customer-service in Malaysia, haih...Some are good, but some can really drive you up the wall...As if you're imposing on their time...

But Japan is still the best. They'd rather die than insult a customer...I heard, anyway =)

Hi Pak Zawi,

Yeah, you know, you're right...A small gesture can go a long way, and we don't need much to keep us happy...

But you're also right when you say some outlets are trying...

At least effort is there...

Too late!
