Where There's Free Food, There's Students...

Me and my friend Eva (also from Malaysia), at the barbeque...

I like university life! It's cool. Like today, the Trent International Students Association (TISA) had a barbeque, and the university provides funds for it...So basically, we got free food lar...And where there's free food, there's plenty of people lar ;)

The Riverview Park and Zoo where we had our barbeque...

Classes have started, and I'm enjoying it so far...My professors are quite goofy, but in a nice way...

Like I have one prof who walks backwards...You know how some people have a habit of pacing up-and-down? Well, that's basically what he does, but forwards-and-backwards...

And he even does it going down the stairs...And when he reaches the part where the steps part, he will wobble, and his eyes go big and round...

The totem pole...Canada has a lot of indigenious roots...

I have another professor who tells us she is bound to injure herself in class at least once during the semester. And she has an evil twin who emerges if she isn't happy. So for her first class, she started by presenting us with a slide titled: "How to keep me happy"...Coming to class is on top of the list...;)

I have another professor who feels that we need a social life besides studying, so she said she will introduce different restaurants every week...She's pretty cool and has quite a lot of energy during lectures...

And I have a professor who collects flies...He actually drove around the county for two years in his pick-up truck...Collecting flies...

Hehe...Who said university students can't use the slides? We all did!

Conclusion? I like my classes! Work is piling up, and the expectations of the professors are very high. There are assignments and tests almost every week, and some classes require you to sit for tests before the lecture of that chapter, to ensure that all students read the chapter before coming to class...

And if the deadline of an assignment is 8 am, and you hand in your assignment at 8.05 am, you're in big trouble...

I think some students were getting panic attacks looking at the amount of work there was to be done...

The weekends are of course much looked forward to...

Petting donkeys at the zoo!

And on the weekends, we go out in throngs on the Trent bus...And flood the town!

Till next time, folks...I have lab reports to write, chapters to read, an entire 'American Psychological Association' guideline to peruse, and a lot of other stuff I'm still trying to figure out...

OMG DAPH! I so envy you right now. You are enjoying your classes and I am hating mine!I do not envy the amoung of work you have to do but I envy the kind of teachers you have! I always ask why people spend so much money to go oversea and study. Looks like there was good reasons.

Hey Aunty Ja,

Yeah, makan-makan and jalan-jalan ler...Siap posing bergambar lagi...

Tourist ma...;)

As for flies, yes, I meant lalat...He didn't use fly-pins...

He actually modified his pick-up truck so that it could hold like 30 bottles in the trunk or something. And he had some contraption in the air which directs all the flies who fly in that region into the bottle!

And he controls the bottles with some lever/clutch in the car and every few km's or so, he would pull the lever and a new bottle would move into place!

Phew!

He should go to Malaysia's tong sampah...He will go mad!

Hi Jo-D,

You know, I always asked how come people who go overseas end up so happy too. Now I know why...

Not hard to be happy here...The system is so admirable, and I wonder how come we can't have this back home?

Why can't Malaysian students enjoy this too, back home?

Hi Kak Farina,

Haha! Hmmm...Hard call actually...They're all nice, so far! She can recommend nice restaurants, but unless she offers to foot the bill, she ain't making it to my top list so easily!

;)

Students are broke ler, remember?

Hello Ms B,

Hehe, nope! No tahpau-ing business for me here...

Eat, yak, visit zoo, pose for pics, then go home lar...Where got tahpau wan? I'm sure there were people who did though...

Some people have amazing appetites though! They really can eat! I feel so inadequate in this department here...

Which should be a good thing...

Hey Atif,

Yes, he's comel! As in, his walking...You should see how his eyes go big and round when he wobbles...

You would think after so many times wobbling, he would know by now that steps are small and he is bound to wobble if he walks backwards! Where lar got eyes behind the head?

Daphne Ling said...

Hi Kak Pi,

YES! You know me so well lar...;)

It's a Malaysian trait! We go for the food...Muahaha...

Waaaaa Daphne! Bestnyer! Glad that you're enjoying life over there.

Sounds like you have fun(ny) professors. That should make life more interesting for you, eh?

I used to have a Professor who NEVER looked at the students. He would come in, start his lecture - the whole time looking out of the window.

One day, we decided to tutup the curtains, and when he came in, he started his lecture, and when he realized the curtains tutup, he went to bukak it again! And you guessed right - the WHOLE lecture he was looking out...Sigh...

Hi Daphne!
Ciak pa liao bo?

Daphne Ling said...

Hey Kak Shana,

Laaa, your prof lagi pelik! Maybe there was something outside that he liked? Like some bird's nest or something? Or maybe he was the nervous type who doesn't like to look at people? Haha...

They could be a million reasons!

But they do add spice to university life! The subjects aren't always fun and interesting, so haven't funny profs sure help, eh? ;)

Hi Aunty Yus,

Hehe...Ciak pa liao ar...But I very cepat lapar wan ler =(

Daph,
Very interesting professors you have there. Kalau jalan backwards and forwards di Malaysia mesti orang kata gila.
Anyway I admire their ingenuity in trying to be original and be remembered by the students. Above all the standard of discipline is high such that a minute late is taken into consideration. Malaysians should learn from them.

Daphne Ling said...

Hi Aunty Yus,

Aiya, fasting month also you have to chiak right? Takkan don't eat at all meh?

*Faint*

Hehe...

And the same to you! So take care...=)

Daphne Ling said...

Hi Pak Zawi,

Haha...Sure will di-label gila wan in Malaysia...Here, we call them eccentric ler...

He's a really nice and understanding prof though...Just has a habit of pacing backwards, that's all...=)

As for their punctuality, aiyo! No such thing as 'On The Way' here! =(
