Small Acts of Academic Kindness Go a Long Way

Email to me from professor in my field today who read an almost final draft of a chapter The Boss and I are publishing in Oxford University Press:

"Also, thanks for all of your hard academic work… After reading through your chapter, I can’t imagine the number of hours you put in. Keep it up."

I read maybe 300 papers for the chapter.

Many people underestimate how small acts of academic kindness can go a long way. Especially when it comes from a senior professor in the field.

p.s., My head is a tad bigger this morning. I can assure you it will deflate by evening. Academia has an uncanny 5-star ability to deflate egos like a vaccum seal.
